Huskies Win Watkins Tourney Title in Style

The Women’s Hockey team didn’t merely skate away from the Watkins Tournament at Cushing Academy with the tournament title. The Huskies, who have been knocking on the door of success early this season, did not allow a goal in a four-win stretch that culminated with a 2-0 victory over the host school in the final. The victory over the Penguins came after three other wins over Brewster Academy (4-0), Northwood (1-0 in OT) and Culver Academy (2-0).

“All of the games were hard-fought and really competitive,” New Hampton coach Craig Churchill told HNIBnews.com. “But, our girls were relentless and accountable in the D-zone. When they had the opportunities, they capitalized.”

One of the rising programs in New England hockey, the Huskies improved their record to 7-4 to the season, which has included losses to undefeated powers Nobles and St. Paul’s (4-3). Goalie Hilary Cashin ’15 earned Tournament MVP honors with four shutouts. Dempsey Arsenault ’15 had two goals and two assists in four games, including the game-winner in overtime against Northwood. Defenseman Allie Munroe ‘15 had a goal and four assists. Andrea Odermatt '15 had two goals in the win over Cushing. Cayla Barnes ’17, who had two goals and four assists, joined Arsenault and Munroe on the all tourney team. Mallory Rushton ‘15 added a goal and three assists.
