High Mowing nets two goals in the first half to secure the win over NHS, 2-1.
On another beautiful fall afternoon, JVA travelled to southern New Hampshire to take on the High Mowing School.
With a new-look offense and Noah Singer's debut in the net, JVA entered the game with confidence and anticipated a tough match against an athletic HMS squad. In the early goings of the match both teams traded possessions, with NHS pressuring with our speedy outside wings Nick and Jun. The defensive effort by NHS was one of the most notable highlights. High Mowing had a number of players with exceptional skill, but the NHS team defense headlined by Young Na's efforts neutralized their top forward and made for a very exciting game.
In the 15th minute a run from the back netted HMS's first goal. NHS battled back to net an equalizer on a crossing back post chip by Nick LaBate in the 35th minute. The tie ball game gave NHS a little boost and they were willing to compete at their highest level. Garrett and Josh played well in the middle of the field sending through balls to the forwards and supporting the defense when it appeared as if the whole HWS team was in our territory. HWS netted the ultimate winning goal on a quick restart and a streaking defender volleying a ball just over the fingers of the NHS goalkeeper. The score at halftime, 2-1.
The NHS team never let up and continued to produce offensive opportunities, with chance moments in the 18-yard box but no goals
On this day the NHS squad came up short, but the even after a tough loss its great to hear a player say, “Even though we lost, this is a fun team to play on.”
NHS has a week to regroup and train before playing Proctor @ NHS next Wednesday.
