Huskies Lose Tight Contest to Brewster

The Huskies dropped a league game to Brewster on Friday night by a score of 79-71. Before a raucous home crowd at Smith Gymnasium, the Huskies got off to a great start, slicing apart the Brewster press to create numerous easy scoring opportunities and opening up a 28-21 advantage. Brewster, though, who entered the contest with an unblemished 24-0 record, answered, dropping back into an aggressive half court defense that saw them close the half on a 25-9 run to take a 46-37 lead into the break. The Brewster run continued into the second half, and at one point the vistors led by 16. Yet the Huskies would not go away, and fueled by second chance opportunities and unselfish play, the Huskies clawed back cutting the lead to 68-63 on a Zach Auguste '12 (Marlborough, MA) free throw following his conversion of a bucket off of a missed free throw. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Huskies would get, as timely buckets by Brewster perserved the victory. The Huskies were led by Auguste, who poured in 22 points and corralled 10 rebounds, including 8 on the offensive end. Noah Vonleh '14 (Haverhill, MA) had a strong effort, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The Huskies have a bit of a break before they tip-off again against Maine Central Institute on Tuesday.
