NHS alum Warner Nickerson earns first World Cup points
Victories against World Cup fields in New Zealand this summer earned Warner Nickerson (New Hampton class of 2000) two 6-point results and a slot in World Cup GS races early this season. Nickerson capitalized on the opportunity on home soil, scoring his first career World Cup points with a 24th at Beaver Creek in December, three spots ahead of Olympic hero Bode Miller. (The race was won by American Ted Ligety.) The result was an important stepping stone for Nickerson, who has been chasing the World Cup dream since graduating from Colby College in 2005. His Beaver Creek points more or less ensure him a spot in World Cup GS races for the rest of the season, and he has recently competed in World Cups in Val D'Isere, France, and Alta Badia, Italy.
