Huskies Defeat Brewster Academy

Friday night the New Hampton Field Hockey team faced Brewster Academy in their second match up of the season.  The Huskies came prepared to avenge their overtime loss to Brewster earlier in the season.  They did this in a big way on a special night as the Senior Class of 2009 played their last game on Kennedy Field.  New Hampton came out energized but were put on their heels right away by a swift Brewster attack.  However, New Hampton's solid defense kept the Bobcats' threats to a minimum.  A switch in personel half way through the first half, quickly changed the momentum of the game.  With 8:09 to play in the first half, Emma Berry '09 found Mary Penniman '10 to put the Huskies on the scoreboard.  Five minutes New Hampton was awarded a penalty corner.  The initial shot was broken but the Huskies kept the ball in the circle and Penniman notched an assist on a Kayla Wagner '09 goal with 3:13 to play in the half.  As time ran down, the Huskies kept on the offensive and won a corner as the time ticked off the clock.  Jenna Miller '10 inserted the ball to Wagner who drilled the ball past the Brewster goal keeper to put New Hampton up 3-0 at the half.  The second half was scoreless for both teams and saw plenty of midfield play.  The game was a memorable one for the seniors who beat Brewster today for the first time in their four years playing for NHS.  New Hampton prepares for a big match up with league rival Tilton School next Saturday during the Powder Keg festivities!  The Huskies improved to 7-6 with the win.
