New Hampton School is excited to welcome the following new faculty and staff members to our community:
Manny Brito is a 1997 graduate of St. Lawrence University who will teach French and Spanish. As part of his B.A. in Linguistics, he double-majored in the two language, and he is fluent in Portuguese, Italian, and Creole. A four-year member of the St. Lawrence men's soccer team, Manny earned multiple awards throughout his career. Recently, he has been playing professional soccer and coaching club teams and soccer camps. A graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Manny is excited to return to a boarding school environment.
Alexander “Sandy” Colhoun, Director of Development, comes to New Hampton School from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, where he had served as Director of the Annual Fund/Major Gifts Officer at for the past three years and was recently promoted to Assistant Director of Development. Since 1991, he has served the Colby College Alumni Fund as class chair, and he is a consultant in development, communications, and public relations for two educational foundations. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Sandy Colhoun received his B.A. in Government with distinction from Colby College in 1991 and his M.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in 1998. He worked in Japan and Central Asia for three years and traveled as a photojournalist through India, Nepal, Tibet, China, and Vietnam. Colhoun was a staff reporter and photographer for a variety of publications including The Antarctic Sun at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and The Christian Science Monitor in Boston. Sandy Colhoun enjoys photography, sailing, skiing, and running. He and his fiancée, Selina Rossiter, will be married in late September and will live in Canterbury.
John Cullinan rejoins the New Hampton School community as the History Department Head. John taught at New Hampton for seven years, at Plymouth Regional High School for one year, and, for the past three years, John has taught history at Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. While at Kingswood, John was the faculty advisor to the Youth in Government Club as well as Model Congress. He earned both his B.A. in Political Science and his M.Ed. in Secondary Education from UNH. John, his wife, Britney, and their two-year old son, Carrigan, live in Rice House. Britney is the Registrar at Holderness School.
Valerie Cummings has joined the Development Office as the Data Base Manager/Office Assistant. Valerie brings a wealth of data base and general computer skills to this position. She is a graduate of Vermont College of Norwich University with a B.A. in Writing and Literature. Prior to joining New Hampton School, Valerie was an administrative assistant for the Transformational Breath Foundation. She has also worked as a Community Service Learning Coordinator with AmeriCorps and the Newfound Memorial Middle School, and as a mail carrier for the United State Postal Service. Valerie and her two children live in Holderness.
Stephen Freeborn will join his wife, Morganne, as a faculty member this year. Stephen graduated from UNH in 2004 with a B.A. in English with a minor in philosophy. He also studied at the American University of Paris for two years of his undergraduate career. Most recently, Stephen has worked as a special education assistant in the Newfound School District. Stephen will teach reading while Diane Finlay in on sabbatical.
Jason Guilbert assumes the duties of Head Coach of our USSA Ski Program. Guilly has been one of NHS’s top coaches for a number of years, and the timing is right for him to tackle this challenging opportunity. Bill Cramton, our Head USSA Coach for 2004-2005, remains on our coaching staff and will be overseeing many of our "on snow" programs as well as continuing to coach golf and do residential duty.
Alumnus Peter Hutchins joins the New Hampton School faculty for the 2005-2006 school year. Pete will be teaching Sarah McShane’s history classes while she is on sabbatical for the fall and winter terms. Pete will also coach basketball and will live in Draper. While a student at New Hampton, Pete was a member of the Varsity A basketball team. Pete, a four-year college basketball player, captained the men’s team at Plymouth State University this past season and was nominated for Academic All-American Honors.
Mike Levine, NHS Class of 2001, is excited to be back on campus, this time as a tutor. After a year playing junior hockey, Mike completed his B.A. in History at Utica College of Syracuse University in May. While at Utica, Mike played ice hockey and worked as a Teacher’s Assistant in the History Department. Michael has coached at ice hockey camps during the past six summers. Michael will be tutoring in the Academic Support Program; he will work with Jaffrie Perotti and the Men’s Varsity Ice Hockey Team, and he will coach JV Baseball as well. He will reside in Randall Hall.
Jake Manseau has an expanded role at New Hampton School this year. After being the assistant ski coach in our USSA/FIS Program and running our fitness program last spring, Jake now holds a full-time position as fall tutor, manager of fall and spring fitness programs, and dorm parent, while he continues his winter ski coaching responsibilities. Jake is a graduate of Plymouth State University, earning a B.S. in Physical Education in 2002. He was a four-year member and captain of the PSU Ski Team, and a winner of multiple awards.
Tina Philibotte Howard will teach Dance while Lisa Travis takes a sabbatical this fall. For the past seven years, Tina has been performing with Lisa’s Dance Company. Tina is also currently enrolled in the M. Ed. Teaching Writing program at Plymouth State University. Last winter, Tina taught English at Waterville Valley Academy.
Zana Previti joins the New Hampton School community as English Teacher, Field Hockey coach, and dorm parent. Zana graduated from Wellesley College in May. While at Wellesley, Zana played Varsity Field Hockey and was named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad for both the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Additionally, Zana has extensive experience tutoring high school and college students. A 2001 graduate of Cushing Academy, Zana is excited to return to the boarding school environment and resides in Berry Hall.
Forest Reid assumes the responsibilities of Math Department Head. Forest has been teaching all levels of math, from advanced algebra through AP Calculus at Burke Mountain Academy. Prior to working at Burke, Forest was a Rhode Island Space Grant Fellow through a partnership between NASA and Brown University. Forest earned his B.S. in Astrophysics from Tufts University and his Sc.M. in Physics from Brown University. Forest also coached cycling at Tufts, Brown and Burke. He and his wife, Sarah, live in Berry Hall.
Kristen Reimold joins the New Hampton School community to teach English and coach Field Hockey and Lacrosse. Most recently, Kristen taught at Derryfield and has worked at both Cushing Academy and Tabor. Kristen earned her B.A. in English from Boston College and her Ed.M. from Harvard in Adolescent Risk and Prevention. While at B.C., Kristen was Co-Captain of the Varsity Field Hockey team. She, her husband, Ray, and her son, Jamie (9 months), live in Rice House.
Kate Scott will work part-time as an assistant in the Assistant Headmaster’s Office and the College Advisor’s Office next year. A graduate of Liberty University, Kate most recently has been working at the New Hampton Community School. Kate and her husband, JK, are expecting their first baby in early fall. They reside in Galletly House.
Abigail Smith has joined New Hampton School in a newly created one-year position to serve as an Admissions Counselor and as a Special Assistant to the Interim Dean of Admissions, Lori Murphy. Abi is a 1991 New Hampton School graduate and was a Frederick & Grace Smith Scholar, receiving a four year academic merit scholarship to attend New Hampton School. A 1995 graduate of St. Lawrence University with a B.A. in Creative Non-Fiction Writing, Abi studied for a semester abroad in Kenya, East Africa, and more recently lived in England for a year and Washington D.C. for several years.
A 2002 graduate of Gordon College, David Swanson majored in Biblical and Theological Studies, worked as a Teacher’s Assistant, and volunteered in the community. He joins our faculty as a tutor and assistant in the Outdoor Adventure program, to which he brings extensive hiking, mountaineering, and climbing experience. He completed his Wilderness First Responder course over the summer. David, his wife Caren, and infant daughter Clara live in Draper Hall.
Mallory Young will teach science and tutor in the Academic Support Program. She will also coach Girls Varsity Ice Hockey and Lacrosse. Mallory graduated from Colby College with a B.A. in Geology and Earth Science. While at Colby, Mallory played Varsity Ice Hockey, and was a Teaching Assistant and Tutor in the Geology department. She lives in Berry Hall.
