New Hampton School vs. KUA Lakes Region Championship Game

The Huskies would face the Kimball Union Academy Wildcats for the second time this week. However, this game would be the Lakes Region Championship game held at Holderness School. Coming off of a huge win against Proctor, Kimball Union Academy would be excited and ready to seek revenge on the Huskies.
Olivia Sollows ’19 would stand tall for the Huskies between the pipes. The Huskies would not get the start they had hoped for. She would be faced with a breakaway at the start of the period, where she was able to deny the Wildcats. Krista Evans ’16 would turn the jets on and back-check to the Husky zone, where she would catch the KUA forward who almost earned a breakaway. The Husky bench would erupt and give them some momentum. The Huskies would have an opportunity on the Power Play but were unable to connect. With forty-three seconds left, Savannah Norcross ’18 would outskate the Wildcat defenseman and shoot the puck. Her line-mate Mckenzie Haberl ’19 would connect on the rebound to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead to end the period.
A gritty KUA team would come out and give the Huskies a hard time. They would score a Power Play goal to tie the Huskies 1-1. The Huskies would need to regroup and focus on communication as well as not giving the puck away. Once again, Haberl ’19 would score for the Huskies with assists by her line-mates Norcross ’18 and Sierra Lee ’17 giving the Huskies a 2-1 lead. Olivia Sollows ’19 in net would be able to deny the Wildcats, ending the period with a 2-1 Husky lead.
The Huskies would regroup in the locker-room and find a way to shut the door on the Wildcats. In the third period, the Huskies would have three different Power Play opportunities. Although they were unable to connect, Taylor Curtis ’17 and Taylor Shelden ’17 would assist Elizabeth Cho ’16 on the third Husky goal. With the Huskies leading 3-1, KUA would call a time-out and pull their goalie with a minute to play. With just four seconds remaining, Cayla Barnes ’17 would muscle through the Wildcats, scoring an empty net goal. The Huskies would win 4-1, earning a Lakes Region Championship.
