The Brewster Bobcats hosted the Huskies at the Pop Whalen Ice Arena in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire this afternoon. After a tough OT loss last season, the Huskies were ready to come back with a vengeance. The energy was high and the Huskies would eventually come out on top with a 3-1 victory.
The Huskies dominated the play in the first period and left Brewster scoreless. Forwards, Kinley Miller ’19 and Taylor Sheldon ’17 contributed to the 18 shots for the Huskies. Defensemen Lauren DeBlois ’19 and Julia Lee ’17 came very close to scoring with their extremely powerful shots from the point. These shots created rebounds but the Huskies would not be able to capitalize yet. On the Power Play, Sierra Lee ’17 scored with assists from the points by both defensemen, Caelin Flaherty ’18 and Cayla Barnes ’17. The Huskies ended the first period with a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies started the second period off strong again. Cayla Barnes ’17 would pass to Elizabeth Cho ’16 who blasted a shot right past the Brewster goalie, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead. The “tape-to-tape” passes and quick transitions gave the Huskies the upper hand in this game. Together, Savannah Norcross ’18 and Mckenzie Haberl ’19 created a number of offensive opportunities during the Penalty Kill. Brewster was able to put one past Husky goalie Olivia Sollows ’19. That would be the only goal Brewster was allowed.
Like the first and second periods, Sollows had an outstanding performance in net during the third period. Her quick reflexes and rebound control kept the Huskies leading Brewster. After earning two assists, Cayla Barnes ’17 would score the third goal for the Huskies with assistance from her defensive partner Caelin Flaherty ’18. As the clock expired, the bench cheered as the Huskies won their second game.
