Joe Williams Named Next Head of School

Today, the New Hampton School Board of Trustees announced their appointment of Joe Williams as the twenty-third head of school. He succeeds Andrew Menke, who last October shared his plan to step down at the end of the 2015-16 school year after eleven years in the role.

Williams currently serves as the Assistant Head of School for External Affairs at Kimball Union Academy, where he leads the school’s residential life and social programs. During his tenure, he introduced grade specific leadership approaches, which he still oversees, and developed a residential life and social curriculum focusing on educating the whole child. As Director of Admissions, he focused on strategic outreach to maximize yield and match, while working with then-current parents and alumni to advance recruitment efforts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joe as our next head of school,” said chairman of the board Pete Galletly. “He brings years of experience as an administrator capable of driving a range of initiatives in step with our mission. New Hampton is a dynamic school. Since Andrew’s arrival, we’ve undergone tremendous programmatic changes while consistently improving the physical campus. Joe will help us fashion New Hampton’s next decade as we continue to educate 21st century learners.”

An alumnus of Lawrence Academy, Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Bowdoin College, and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of Vermont.

“It is an honor to join the New Hampton School community,” Williams said. “New Hampton's rich history, outstanding people, and vibrant programs have positioned the school for an exceptionally bright future. I am deeply grateful for this exciting leadership opportunity and look forward to continuing the journey of success and innovation for New Hampton.”

Williams will be joined on campus by his wife Eileen and their four children. He begins his work at New Hampton on July 1, 2016.
