We believe technology is changing education.
There is too much information in the world for any teacher or student to master it all. We believe finding valid information and making meaning from it are important 21st-century skills. With our iPad program we give students and teachers not only immediate access to information, but also the tools to create compelling content.

iPad Program Featured in Union Leader Story
With an iPad program that has given the device from Apple to all faculty as well as all freshmen and sophomores, New Hampton School is being recognized as a leader in the use of this new tool. The Union Leader's New Hampshire Sunday News published a story titled
"iPads Slowly Popping up in Classrooms Across NH"
in which Head of School Andrew Menke and Director of Technology Integration Hans Mundahl were quoted in the story by Michael Cousineau. Click

iPad Innovation: No Longer a Pilot Program
The questions came easily nearly a year ago as New Hampton School administrators mulled the possibility of adding the iPad to the curriculum and giving the device to all incoming freshmen students. Is this an educational gimmick? Isn’t it difficult enough to get high school students to focus without the distraction of a piece of technology in their hands when they should be considering the difference between China and the United States’ economic systems?
Director of Technology Eric LaCroix Pens Article on iPad Pilot Program
Director of Technology Eric LaCroix wrote an interesting article about the iPad Pilot Program in the most recent issue of "Connections," a publication from the New Hampshire Society of Technology Education (nhste.org).
iPad Pilot Program Launches Into Classrooms
Ninth-grade students opened the iPad boxes as if it were Christmas morning on Tuesday. The New Hampton School Ninth Grade iPad Pilot Program officially launched this week, and students quickly became accustomed to the new devices in Foundations of Learning Classes. With bright eyes and numerous questions, they seem thrilled to be a part of something that could be groundbreaking in education and will certainly affect how they learn and acquire necessary skills in their first year of high school.

FAQ
Q.
Where can I learn more about the iPad devices?
A.
www.apple.com/iPad
is the official site for iPad, where you can see photos, watch guided tours and read more about this revolutionary product.
Q.
Who owns the iPad - the school, or the student?
A.
Upon successful completion of the freshman year, the student may keep the iPad. If the student leaves NHS during the year for any reason then the iPad will be returned to the School.
Q.
What is included with the iPad, and which model are freshmen receiving?
A.
Apple includes a USB charger and sync cable with the 16GB WiFi iPad. New Hampton School is also providing the Apple iPad Case to help protect the iPad and to allow for easier on-screen keyboard use. Freshman usually receive the newest iPad model available, in the fall of 2011 this was the iPad 2.
Q.
Which specific apps will be used on the iPad?
A.
Students use a variety of apps including the iWork suite (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) on the iPad. New Hampton School will provide this set of three apps for each student.
Q.
Does the iPad replace my laptop or desktop computer?
A.
This is up to the individual student. Although the iPad performs many tasks better than a laptop, some tasks (such as those requiring a full keyboard) are more difficult on the device.
Q.
Do I need to bring my own computer to New Hampton School? Does it need to be an Apple computer?
A.
Students are not required to bring personal computers. New Hampton provides access to Apple computers in our three computer labs for a total of approximately 50 student-accessible computers. Additionally, many students bring laptops (primarily Apple, by student preference) and some bring desktops. Students enrolled as freshmen and therefore participating in the iPad program will benefit from having Apple laptops but, as previously stated, students are not required to bring personal computers.
Q.
Can a ninth grader buy his or her own apps for iPad?
A.
Yes. We help the student set up an Apple ID that is not connected to a credit card so the best way to purchase apps that cost money is with an iTunes Gift Card. There are also many free apps available.
