  • Golf Coed-Varsity

    2018 - 2019
    Head Coach: Bo Cramer

The New Hampton Varsity Golf team competes in the spring season against other Lakes Region schools. During the preseason, while we wait for the snow to melt, the team practices on our very own indoor simulator where the team can play on various PGA courses. Using this and recording each golfer hit the ball, golfers on the team analyze their swings, identify faults in their mechanics, and perform various drills to overcome these flaws. In addition the team has workout routines, stretching exercises, and matted areas to works on their putting skills.

Once the weather is warm, the team is fortunate to practice and play home matches at Laconia Country Club. The course is among the finest in New Hampshire and the facilities are extraordinarily well maintained. At Laconia the players have a wide array of practices to use, including the driving range, putting green, chipping green, and “Old Seven,” a short hole no longer used on the main course, but maintained for advanced players to work on their approach game.

The team competes in match play and typically has matches on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Our top six golfers compete in the matches and an ongoing weekly ranking system determines where each player will be placed for the next upcoming match. Our season culminates with a Lakes Region Championship Tournament which is generally held at Lake Sunapee Country Club. Skill development, sportsmanship, and golf etiquette are all important aspects of the program and stressed throughout the season.

  • Huskies Finish Undefeated in the Lakes Region

With a Tilton team lacking numbers, the Huskies competed against Tilton's 4 golfers in a cumulative stroke competition. Newman (1) was once again the low scorer on the day shooting a 40. Coan (2) started strong, but failed to convert on birdy chances and struggled on the last few holes to shoot 44. Liang (3) and Joughin (4) both shot 42 with steady play. Each New Hampton player beat their opponent by at least two strokes, securing the final win of the season. The team now preps for the final tournament in which the top four will compete to hold onto the Lakes Region title.

  • Double Point Win for the Huskies against Holderness and Vermont

The Huskies continued their undefeated run in Lakes Region competition in a big win against both Vermont and Holderness in a two-part competition that contributed to 2 points in the Lakes Region standings.

In match play, the Huskies swept Vermont, winning each match against their opponents. Against Holderness, Newman (1), Coan (2), Grace (4), and Burwell (6) all won their matches. Joughin (3) and Bone (5) dropped their matches, but still contributed solid points to the Stableford team competition.

In Stableford, the Huskies pulled out an even tighter win against Holderness. The point totals were New Hampton 117, Holderness 112, and Vermont 54. Solid contributions across the board from the Huskies were vital to this win to assert themselves as a dominant force in the league, as each player added point totals no lower than 15 points and no higher than 22.

Team lows were tied as both Newman (1) and Coan (2) shot 41, followed close behind by Joughin (42) and Burwell (43).

The Huskies move into next week preparing to face their rival, Tilton, for the first time this season and the opportunity to finalize their undefeated run in the Lakes Region.

  • New Hampton Wins Against Proctor

In a Lakes Region rematch, New Hampton took the win with authority. The match was extended to incorporate a 7th match in the result of a tiebreaker, but wasn't need. Kesselring (7) in his Husky golf debut beat his opponent with authority. Burwell (6) also won her match before the final hole, but Liang (6) lost the final hole to split his match. Bone (4) won his match and the team best ball on the final hole by sinking a crucial putt, and Joughin (3) definitively won his match with 7 straight pars. Coan (2) also won, as did Newman (1). • Huskies Battle With Holderness for a Lakes Region Win

The New Hampton home opener was rescheduled from last week to today, and the Huskies faced off against rival school Holderness in a late afternoon match. The day started cold, and the course was still wet from a very unforgiving spring. However, the sun eventually broke through and the conditions improved. With little time to warm up, the Huskies had no choice but to trust their game and play.

Newman (1) shot the team low of 38 and won his match early. Coan (2) struggled in the wet conditions and faced a Holderness opponent who could not miss from short range. He clawed his way back from a slow start and four down to the last hole, but unfortunately was unable to split the match on the last hole when his opponent hit a clutch midrange putt. Bone (3) played well throughout the round, trading holes with his opponent. With the match all square on hole 9, Bone hit a big par putt to secure both his match and the team best ball. Liang (4) won his match before the final holes but double bogeyed the last 2 holes to shoot a 43. Joughin (5) took his match to the final hole up one but dropped it after lipping out a 15-foot putt, unfortunately splitting the match. Burwell (6) played consistent golf through the course of her round, closing the match on the eighth hole and winning the match a total of 4 up.

Team lows were Newman at 38, Joughin at 41, and Bone at 42.

Shout out to Coach Burns for his moving pregame speech, which played no small part in the team's success.

The Huskies play again tomorrow at Laconia in a rematch against Proctor Academy.

Joughin (5) and Peterson (6) also took their match to the wire, winning each of their respective matches and the team best ball on that hole. Newman shot the team low of 37, Coan the next lowest with 39, and the third highest was Burwell with a 43. With this authoritative win, the Huskies have set the tone for the season and look forward to playing strong Holderness and Tilton teams next week.
