Soccer | Men's JV B

NHS Men's JV B hosted KUA for the third and final time to end the 2023 season to kick off the NHS vs KUA Play Day. Both teams had their share of offensive opportunities early in the game, which was proving to be equally as competitive as the match up just three days earlier. NHS's defensive back line was looking solid under the leadership of the ever-consistent play of Freshman Eli Arvidson '27. The Huskies were the first team to score thanks to the efforts of Jacob Resnick '27, giving the team a 1-0 lead going into the half. KUA came out in the second half like a lightning bolt, rushing down the field and scoring a dominant goal in under a minute. Luckily, the Huskies pepped up and got their legs back under themselves. The game went back and forth until captain Carter Masterson '25 put the Huskies back on top with a shot that hit the far side net. The Huskies turned to a more defensive-focused play style, relying on counter attacks to close out the game. Freshman Shunsuke Kurata '27 was able to capitalize on one of these pushes, finding the back of the net and securing the 3-1 victory for the team. Men's JV B ended the season on a tremendously high note, showing improvement all around. For many players on our team, this was the best game of the season and they should be very proud of all the hard work they put in to the season!

Men's JV B Soccer traveled to KUA on 11/8 for the final away game of the season. On what proved to be one of the coldest days of the season, the Huskies struggled to get organized early in the game, finding KUA up 3-0 with 15 minutes left in the first half, but not without their share of scoring opportunities. Jamie Schatz '27 was able to ignite a bit of fire on the offensive side for the Huskies, scoring his first goal of the season off an assist from Shunsuke Kurata '27 with time running out in the first half. The beginning of the second half looked as if the game was really tilting in NHS's favor, especially after Jamie Schatz's second goal of the game (this time off an assist by Carter Masterson '26). Unfortunately, however, KUA was able to find the back of the net one more time midway through the half, in what would be the win-securing-goal. The Huskies have a chance for redemption at home on 11/11 at Palazzi Field where we will host KUA for our third match up of the season, and the final game of the year.

NHS Men's JV B traveled to Holderness School on 11/4 for the third and final match up of the season, including the matchup during the Cardigan Mountain School Jamboree early in the season. The Huskies came out of the gates strong, putting together a series of offensive rushes. Through a bit of chaos, freshman Jacob Resnick '27 was able to force through a perfect chip pass to fellow freshman Shunsuke Kurata '27 for a header that found the back of the net. The Rams would go on to dominate the majority of possession during the first half, but the Huskies were able to maintain the lead. Ball possession was the name of the game throughout the second half as well, with both teams putting together long stretches of offensive pressure but neither side able to capitalize on potential scoring opportunities. NHS was able to hold off the always-physical and always-competitive Holderness squad, earning a hard fought victory. The Huskies have two more games left in the season; we look to travel to KUA on 11/8 then wrap the season at home hosting KUA on 11/11 at Palazzi Field.

New Hampton School's Men's JV B team hosted Austin Prep on Kennedy Field on a cold afternoon for their first game in two weeks. NHS had a strong advantage in control time throughout the game, but found themselves tied going into the half despite having several scoring opportunities. With a focus on capitalizing on scoring opportunities, the team was able to start generating goals midway through the second half. Jacob Resnick '27 extended his scoring streak to four games in a row, while also notching two assists in the half. Fellow freshman Shunsuke Kurata '27 scored one of the goals, while captain Carter Masterson '25 found himself in front of an open net for the other. NHS Men's JV B soccer continues to prove that they are a strong second half team, but we will need to put together a solid performance all 60 minutes when we travel up to Holderness on 11/4 for our final match up of the season against the always competitive Bulls.

New Hampton Men's JV B Soccer hosted Proctor's JV B squad for the final match up between the schools on 10/18. Battling a few injuries, JV B swung down a few players from the JV A squad to help make the match more balanced and competitive. Going into the half, NHS found themselves up 2-0 thanks to swing player Kyler Polanec '26 and his offensive production, scoring a goal and assisting on another for freshman Jacob Resnick '27 who extended his scoring streak to three games. Proctor came out strong in the second half and was able to even the score with short time left on the clock. While NHS played well, they were not able to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leading to an end score of 2-2. NHS looks to recover from illness and injuries over a two week break between games. We return to action on 11/1 at home against Austin Prep on Kennedy Field

New Hampton Men's JV B took on Holderness at home on 10/14 in what proved to be a physical and highly competitive matchup. After a successful penalty kick from Jacob Resnick '27 and a strong goal from Carter Masterson '25, the Huskies found themselves tied 2-2 with time running out. Holderness was able to create a bit of confusion in front of the goal, leading to a late score, putting the Huskies down 2-3 with less than five minutes left in gameplay. The boys dug deep and never gave up though, putting together a counterattack play that led to Jacob Rescnick's second goal of the game and the equalizer that would force a draw. The entire team continues to show grit, strength, and focus and are improving every time they step out on the pitch. We look to rest up and prepare for a rematch against the explosive offense of Proctor Academy at home on 10/18.

New Hampton took on a competitive and well-organized Cardigan Mountain squad on Kennedy Field. After a slow start, the Huskies were able to regroup and put together a more formidable second half, but ultimately were unable to find the back of the net. The team looks to bounce back against Proctor in a mixed JV A & B competition on Saturday.

New Hampton hosted Proctor in a mixed JV A & B competition, in what proved to be a physical and competitive match up. Unfortunately, New Hampton was unable to find score, despite strong play on both sides of the ball. Eli Arvidson '27 had a particularly strong showing for the Huskies on the defensive end, in what proved to be a breakout game for the Freshman Center Back. The boys look to regroup and take on Proctor's JV2 squad on 10/7 for the Proctor Play Day.

New Hampton traveled to Proctor for the first of three Play Days this season on 10/7. The boys played a tough matchup through wind and off-and-on rain, in what proved to be their strongest showing of the season, despite a slightly lop-sided score. Sam Copi '26 had a breakout game, playing a highly competitive game at the Right Back position. Freshman Shunsuke Kurata '27 scored off of a perfectly placed assist by Captain Carter Masterson '25, who also scored a goal of his own. Freshman Sean Boyd '27 had multiple scoring opportunities, including a powerful shot the crossbar, showing his ability to turn defense into offense as a Defensive Midfielder. The team has time to rest up and keep working in preparation for our first matchup of the season against Holderness on 10/14.

New Hampton JV B Soccer traveled to Cardigan Mountain School to participate in the annual CMS JV Soccer Jamboree on Wednesday. The team competed in three separate matches, ultimately coming out of the day 1-1-1. In our first matchup, the Huskies took on CMS's 3rds team. Carter Masterson '25 scored the game winner with less than a minute left in play time. For match two, NHS took a step up in competition, taking on an athletic and well-organized CMS JV team, ultimately losing 0-3 despite strong play and opportunities on both sides of the ball. Feeling injured and depleted, the Huskies dug deep and took on Holderness in a shortened game with goalies and 8 field players. Jacob Resnick '27 scored the team's lone goal early on, but Holderness was able to even the score. Goalie Ben Byrne '25 made a clutch save that required him to dive parallel to the ground which ultimately secured the draw. Men's JV B soccer looks to rest up over the weekend and prepare a rematch against the CMS JV squad at home on Kennedy Field on 9/27.

In the season opener, Men's JV B Soccer hosted Sant Bani for a friendly afternoon matchup. Both teams had their fair share of scoring opportunities throughout the first half, but only the Swans were able to find the back of the net. The Huskies were able to regroup and take the lead midway through the second half though, thanks to two assists from first-year Husky Shunsuke Kurata '27. The first Husky goal came off a perfect long through pass from Shunsuke followed up by a difficult angle shot by captain Carter Masterson '25. A few minutes later, fellow first-year Husky Jacob Resnick '27 capitalized off a lofted cross from Shunsuke, scoring what would ultimately be the game-winning goal. The young Husky squad had a great showing, and look to keep things going on 9/16 against KUA!

NHS Men's JV B Soccer traveled to KUA on a blustery Saturday to take on a strong and physical KUA squad in the first of three matchups this season. Although the Huskies fell 2-0, we were not without our share of opportunities and successes. Carter Masterson '25 had a Penalty Kick opportunity, Ben Byrne '25 made several dominant saves in goal, and everyone competed hard to keep the game competitive. The team represented Husky Nation well and players seem to be settling into natural positions on the pitch. We'll look to regroup and prepare for three fun scrimmages on 9/20 at the annual Cardigan Mountain School JV Soccer Jamboree!
