Last Minute Goal Wins Thriller

A last-gasp goal earns Huskies the victory over Proctor
In a rematch of the 0-0 game at Proctor only weeks ago, we welcomed the resilient, counter-attacking Hornets to campus. It came as no surprise that there was very little between the two teams throughout the game.

The game flowed back and forth in the first half with our Huskies controlling much of the ball in the early stages. However, the first goal came from an incredible, long-range shot from a Proctor player that sailed into the top corner of our goal. We lost the plot for the remaining 20 minutes of the half and needed to use half-time to go back to the drawing board.

To our players' credit, they came out firing in the second half. We played our best soccer of the season right from the whistle and overwhelmed the Hornets' defense effectively. Three of our young guns combined excellently around the 18-yard box and a quality finish brought us back to level terms.

While we controlled the game from that point forward, Proctor had a couple of their own chances to win the game. The most alarming opportunity came in the final 10 minutes when their striker was clear-through on our goal with only our keeper in the way. Our goalkeeper made a tremendous save to keep us even and lay the foundation for us to go on and win the game.

We had a flurry of chances during the last five minutes, but the one that broke the deadlock was a beautifully floated ball to the backpost that was headed home. Our striker leaped over their center-back and goalkeeper to find the back of the net.

This was a huge win over a very talented and well-coached Proctor team. It was made even better by the attendance and noise of our students cheering on the team!
