New Hampton Riders Take Over Lakes Region Championships

Mason Howe, Alexa Mailloux, and Sydney Mailloux bring home three 1st place medals and one 2nd place medal in slopestyle and giant slalom Lakes Region Championships.
The New Hampton School snowboard team traveled two hours to Okemo Mt. to compete in the Lakes Region Championships. The slopestyle competition took place in the morning and the giant slalom race in the afternoon. The weather was overcast and the temperature hovered around 10 degrees.

Alexa Mailloux took first place in slopestyle for the females. This secures an undefeated season for Alexa, taking first place in all slopestyle and rail jam competitions throughout the year. Alexa blasted off some of the biggest jumps she's hit this season and crushed the rail/box tiers of the course. Senior,

Mason Howe, has been out the majority of this season with a broken wrist. This was his first and last competition of the year and he did not disappoint. Executing stylish grabs through the biggest jump line and throwing 180's off the rainbow rail helped to secure a 1st place finish for Mason in the slopestyle competition. Ben DiGrande was also charging through the slopestlye course, launching himself through the biggest jump line, and hitting hefty rail features. Ben missed the podium by just a few points and finished the morning with a solid 4th place finish.

Ted Chiriamonte and Jake Schottenfeld both tied for 15th place in slopestyle. Both these boys were not hitting park features during the first few weeks of the season, and now are flying off medium size jumps and rail features with confidence.

The team broke for lunch and grabbed some pizza in town at the base of the mountain. The giant slalom race took place on the trail just to the left of the slopestyle course. Freshman, Sydney Mailloux, fell on the third gate but managed to climb back up, make the gate, and finish her run. Even with this setback, she had a fast second run, and ended up finishing 2nd place overall for the girls in the giant slalom competition.

The giant slalom course proved to be challenging, and Ben DiGrande also wiped out on the third gate in the course. Mason Howe had two fast runs in the afternoon and secured himself his second 1st place medal for the day.

This was a great conclusion to our season; bringing three 1st place medals and one 2nd place medal back to Husky Nation. That's a wrap for the 2018-19 snowboard season!
