Overtime Heartbreaker Ends Huskies Season

New Hampton School traveled to rival Tilton School for the opening round of the Lakes Region Tournament and dropped a heartbreak in overtime, 5 to 4. The game was back and forth all afternoon long as both teams exchanged goals. The Rams jumped on the board first early in the game when a wrist shot beat goaltender, Andrew Sayles, over the glove. However, the Huskies came right back with two goals of their own. Senior Troy Coan got New Hampton on the board first when he stuffed a loose puck in the crease into the back of the net. Moments later, the Huskies converted on the powerplay when Daniel Pechr rifled a shot from the point that beat the goaltender top shelf. The Huskies went into the first intermission up by one. In the second period, it was Tilton who scored the only goal to tie the game at two. Early in the third period, the Huskies converted yet again on the powerplay when Mason Kesselring made a beautiful pass back-door to Marek Pechr who blasted a one-timer into the net. But, a resilient Tilton team tied the game later in the period. The Huskies never gave up and scored another beautiful goal by Jun Cha to gain the lead when he roofed a snap shot from the slot. Unfortunately, the hockey Gods weren’t in favor of the Huskies this game and Tilton tied it up four to four with 50 seconds left. After a quick break, the game went to overtime and Tilton converted on a defensive zone mishap and scored the game winner with one-minute left. Sayles was incredible in net and made save after save to keep the Huskies in the game. A big thank you to our five seniors who wore the Husky jersey with class all year long. New Hampton finished the 2018-2019 season with an 8-13 record.
