Huskies Run Into Hot Goaltender Against Dexter

The New Hampton Huskies traveled south to Brookline, MA today, taking on the #4 ranked team in Prep School Hockey, Dexter School. New Hampton faced off against Dexter about a month ago, falling 6-3, in a close fought battle. The Huskies know what to expect from Dexter and will need to bring their “A” game as well as stick to their systems this evening to come out on top. New Hampton showed up ready to play and nearly took the lead on the first shift of the game, had it not been for an incredible save by the Dexter goaltender. A couple shifts later, it looked as if the Huskies did take the lead, but somehow the Dexter goaltender managed to keep the puck out of the net. New Hampton continued to play at a high pace for the rest of the period but could not seem to find the back of the net. With just over six minutes remaining in the period, Dexter took advantage of the only real mistake New Hampton made, scoring to give them a 1-0 lead after the first period of play. Despite being down a goal, the Huskies dominated the first period, out shooting Dexter 13-6. In the second period, New Hampton continued to control the pace of the game and put pressure on Dexter. Five minutes into the period, the Huskies hard work paid off, forcing Dexter to take a penalty. On the power play, Cory Morris was able to even the score for New Hampton. The goal resulted from, Jake Dunlap, firing a shot from the point that beat the Dexter goaltender, but hit the goal post. Isaac MacLeod tried to jam home the rebound unsuccessfully and the puck bounced out to Morris. Morris would not be denied and found a way to get the puck past a sprawling Dexter goaltender. After Morris’s goal the rest of the period was pretty evenly played, with both New Hampton and Dexter creating scoring chances. Matt Sayles and the Dexter goaltender played strong in net to keep the game tied at one, after two periods of play. The third period started off just as the second period ended, both teams play fast, high pace hockey, trying to earn the next goal and break the tie. Just past the ten minute mark it was Dexter that broke the tie, to take a 2-1 lead. In the final eight minutes, the Huskies battled hard to tie the game, but could not find a way to beat the Dexter goaltender. With a minute and a half remaining and the New Hampton goaltender pulled, Dexter scored in the open net to go up by two. Dexter was able to score once more before the end of the game defeating the Huskies 4-1. Despite the loss, New Hampton played a strong game, just ran into a hot goaltender. Matt Sayles was also great in net stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced. The Huskies will return home on this Friday to take on an equally strong opponent, Kimball Union Academy, for the second time in a week.
