Huskies Fall To Lakes Region Rival Tilton

New Hampton hosts the #4 ranked team in Prep School, Tilton School, tonight. The Huskies Lakes Region rival is playing good hockey posting an impressive 14-2 overall record. New Hampton will look to tighten things up defensively tonight and make sure to take advantage of their offensive opportunities to be successful against Tilton. The game started off great, both teams came out flying, ready to play. As the period went on, the Huskies started to get the better of Tilton, nearly scoring two or three times in the first sixteen minutes. With two minutes left in the period, New Hampton took a penalty and Tilton was able to score on their power play to take a 1-0 lead after the first period. The second period was similar to the first, the first fifteen minutes saw great hockey from both team with back and forth action. At the sixteen minute mark, Jack Ring won a puck battle along the boards in the offensive zone. Ring got the puck to Adam Shuchart near the goal line. Shuchart took a step out from the goal line and ripped a high hard shot on net that the Tilton goaltender could not handle. Grace was in perfect position in front of the net to slam home the rebound. A minute later and with less than a minute left in the period, Tilton scored a bit a fluky goal to take a 2-1 led heading into the second intermission. The third period did not start the way the Huskies would have hoped. Three and a half minutes in to the period, Tilton scored another lucky goal to take a two goal lead over the Huskies. New Hampton was not fazed by Tilton’s goal, Isaac MacLeod responded less than a minute later for New Hampton. After receiving a quick break out pass from Parker Shaarschmidt, Jake Dunlap threw a pass cross ice that landed on Isaac MacLeod stick around the red line. MacLeod skated down the right side of the ice and ripped a shot short side top shelf to bring the Huskies back within one. Two minutes later, it was Tilton that responded and went back up by two goals. The rest of the period, New Hampton battled extremely hard to score and try to tie the game up, but the Huskies were unable to find the back of the net. Tilton added an empty net goal with less than a minute remaining to defeat New Hampton 5-2. Despite the loss, the game was one of the best games the Huskies have played in a while. New Hampton battled hard all night and were a couple breaks away from the score being in their favor. Hopefully, the Huskies will build off this effort and play a similar three period game on Friday, when they host another Lakes Region rival, Holderness.
