Huskies Offense Snakebitten In Loss To Governor's

The New Hampton Huskies returned to school shortly after the New Year and were able to get a couple practices under their belt, before traveling to Byfield, MA today to take on Governor’s Academy. The Huskies came out strong to start the first period, dominating the play all over the ice and working hard to try and score the opening goal. It looked as if James Hatzepetros had given New Hampton the lead five minutes in. Hatzepetros beat the Governor’s goaltender on a point shot, but then an unfortunate clank sound was heard. Hatzepetros shot hit the goal post and the score remained 0-0. Three minutes later, Jake Dunlap made a nice move just inside the offensive blueline, then ripped a shot short side high. Dunlap’s shot again beat the Governor’s goaltender, only to hear the clank sound again. After the first ten minutes the Huskies were two goalposts away from being up by two goals. With just under four minutes to play, Governor’s was able to take the lead, benefiting from some puck luck, after an attempted pass found its way to the back of the New Hampton net. In the second period, the game play turned a bit sloppy, resulting in both teams taking penalties. Five minutes into the second period, it looked as if the Huskies had scored to tie the game, but the referees ruled the puck had never crossed the goal line. It was only Governor’s that was able to convert on one of their power plays, midway through the period, while the Huskies offense seemed to be snakebitten. Down by two goals to start the third period, New Hampton looked to jump Governor’s off the faceoff to start the third period and get back within one goal. Despite pounding shots on net, the Huskies were unable to find a way to get the puck past the Governor’s goaltender as time in the game ticked away. With thirty seconds left in the game and the goal pulled for New Hampton, Steve Ardagna, finally got the Huskies on the board. James Hatzepetros got the puck in deep, Greg Peterson won a puck battle and got the puck to Marcus Joughin. Joughin, hit Ardagna crashing in from the point with a pass that Ardagna deflected past the Governor’s goaltender. New Hampton tried to create a chance in the last thirty second to tie the game, but in the end the Huskies ran out of time. Lucas Brine was solid in net stopping 21 of the 23 shots he faced. New Hampton will be looking to get the offense back on track, before taking on Lakes Region rival, Holderness Monday night.
