Huskies Hang Tough in 5-1 Loss to Cushing

The Huskies took the ice Saturday afternoon against a deep, talented Cushing Academy. New Hampton came out playing hard and sticking to the system, but were down early on goals by Cushing. However, the Huskies stayed positive and remained calm knowing that they were playing well. New Hampton gained momentum in the second period with scoring chances, disciplined defensive zone coverage, and some huge saves by junior goalie, Alex Bechard. The score remained 3 to 0 after two periods with the Huskies coming on strong. In the 3rd period, the Huskies got on the board on a great offensive zone sequence. The puck made its way high to the blue line where defenseman Daniel Pechr collected the puck and put a nice shot on net. With tons of traffic, the rebound squirted out to the right side of the net where senior forward Kaya Suner buried a rebound past the Cushing netminder. New Hampton kept the pressure going through the rest of the period, but couldn’t convert on any more scoring chances. The Huskies ended up letting in two more goals, falling to Cushing 5 to 1. Suner’s goal was his second in as many games. Freshman forward Jimmy McCool played a great positional game and picked up his first point as a Husky with an assist on Suner’s goal. Senior Harry Secor, with a position change early in the game, was stellar on the blue line for the Huskies. Bechard had a strong performance and made some huge saves for New Hampton. The Huskies welcome Hillside School this Sunday, December 2nd for a 1 p.m. game at Jacobson Arena.
