Huskies Fall Just Short in Northeast Hockey Showcase

The semi-finals and finals are played as twenty-five minute mini games. Thus, a good start to the game is crucial to winning today, since there is not much time for teams to recover after falling behind. New Hampton did just that against South Florida Academy U18, using their speed to create several quality scoring chances early in the game. Isaac MacLeod lit the lamp sixteen minutes into the game to put the Huskies up by one. Will Hilfiker and Cory Morris had assists on the play. Four minutes later, Jake Dunlap scored on the power play after being set up by Jack Ring and Marcus Joughin, sealing the two goal victory for New Hampton. Matt Sayles was solid again in new, earning his second shutout victory in the tournament for the Huskies. New Hampton will now face Tilton in the Northeast Hockey Showcase Tournament Finals, this afternoon.

In the finals, New Hampton came out slow and Tilton controlled the pace of the game early on. Tilton’s pressure caused the Huskies to take some early penalties, leading to Tilton scoring four minutes into the game. After Tilton’s goal, the next ten minutes, saw solid goaltending by Lucas Brine to fend off Tilton’s attempts to extend their lead. By the time New Hampton finally gained their composure and started to take control of the game, it was too late, the Huskies ran out of time to tie the game. Overall, it was a great weekend for New Hampton, they played good hockey and had the opportunity to build some chemistry heading with the regular season starting after Thanksgiving break. On November 28th, the Huskies will travel to Massachusetts to start the season off against Winchendon, a team they defeated in the Small School Semi-Finals last year.
