Huskies Overpower Winchendon

Coach Smith
First half Lamprey brace sets the tone for New Hampton.
The Husky offense came alive against an overwhelmed Winchendon side. Senior forward Nate Lamprey got New Hampton on the board in the 4th minute taking a pass from senior captain Caleb Duggan and slotting home. The Huskies moved the ball around well, despite a rainy afternoon and soggy surface conditions. Duggan bagged the second goal of the day, receiving the ball from freshman midfielder Rhys Jones and taking a settling touch before blasting it on a rope to the low left corner from 30 yards out. Duggan got his second assist of the game off a corner kick that found junior back Will Wood for the third Husky goal in the 23rd minute. Lamprey earned his brace a minute later when a beautiful dummy from junior middy Ethan Northcott left the ball for an on-rushing Thomas Prentice '19 who slotted across to Lamprey who finished smoothly from a few yards out. Prentice then turned goal scorer in the 28th minute when his long lob from just inside the sideline 35 yards out crept over the leaping keeper and just under the bar and into the far corner. Junior back Jack Wolf notched his first goal of the season with a well struck free kick from 25 yards that bent over the wall and into the far side netting. The Huskies headed into half time with a comfortable 6-0 lead.

It took 5 minutes into the second half for the Huskies to strike again. A forceful header from Wood was parried away, but right to the foot of freshman forward Emmet Shea who wasted no time in slamming it home. Junior midfielder Bernardo Fernandez scored his first goal of the season as well. After senior forward Devon Garrett slotted through to put Fernandez in on goal, an initial save from the keeper popped out and right back to the foot of Fernandez who didn't waste his second opportunity.

Junior netminder Connor Campbell-Diehl and senior keeper Seth Wilkenson split halves to earn the clean sheet. Each finished the day with a couple of saves.

The Huskies are back in action next week on October 17th at Proctor Academy.
