Huskies Hang On For Win Against Proctor

Coach Smith
First half Lamprey strike and stellar defense lead New Hampton to victory.
It was a gorgeous day for soccer on Kennedy Field as New Hampton hosted visiting Lakes Region rival Proctor Academy. The match was action packed from start to finish with both sides finding good scoring opportunities. The Huskies controlled much of the play in the early stages, working the ball up the field well. They got on the board in the 12th minute on a strike from senior forward Nate Lamprey. New Hampton junior forward Thomas Hornor forced a turnover on the sideline and put a quick throw-in towards the corner to streaking junior back Thomas Prentice. Prentice collected 20-yards from the endline, beat his defender, and slotted a low drive across the box. Lamprey stepped in front of his defender as the ball came across the goal mouth, took a quick settling touch and blasted home to the far corner past a diving Proctor keeper.

A furious second half saw chances aplenty for both sides. Senior captain Devon Garrett was put through near the 70th minute, but his shot from 20 yards out was perried away. New Hampton broke through again around the 75th minute when a long ball to the head of Prentice who nodded down to Hornor on the 6, but his point blank shot went right into the hands of the keeper. Proctor pressured hard in the closing quarter of an hour. Several dangerous free kicks were played to safety by the stellar junior backline of Prenctice, Will Wood, Jack Wolf, and Juan Carlos Hernandez. When the ball did find it's way through, junior netminder Connor Campbell-Diehl was always up for the task, finishing the match with 10 saves and distributing well throughout.

New Hampton is home on October 6th against Phillips Exeter Academy.
