Huskies Defeat Defending Champs Hebron

Coach Smith
Strong offense leads to Husky win.
On a gorgeous day on Kennedy Field, New Hampton came out flying. An 8th minute Husky attack led to a hand ball in the box as the Hebron defense frantically tried to clear the ball. The PK was called and senior captain Devon Garrett stepped up to the spot. The whistle blew and Garrett calmly slammed it home. The Husky offense continued to pressure the Lumberjack backline and notched their second in the 31st minute. After swinging the ball over to junior Thomas Prentice, the crafty left back whipped a beautiful cross in to the box that was met in the hair by an on-rushing Thomas Hornor who headed down to the near post side netting just passed the diving Hebron keeper. A late first half Hebron goal halved the lead for the Huskies.

New Hampton came storming back out in the second half with several good chances in the opening minutes. Hebron had their share of scoring opportunities as well, but junior keeper Connor Campbell-Diehl came up with several huge saves to preserve the lead. New Hampton broke through again in the 61st minute when Garrett collected a clearance 30 yards from goal, beat a Hebron defender and slotted the ball into the box to senior captain Caleb Duggan. Duggan calmly settled and fired past the helpless Lumberjack keeper.

Campbell-Diehl finished with 11 saves on the day, anchoring a strong Husky defensive performance.

New Hampton is away on September 18th at Holderness.
