Huskies fall to Tilton Rams in the seventh inning

After having the lead through the top of the seventh inning, New Hampton lost to Tilton 5-3.
New Hampton got on base early with Courtney Colarullo singling on a hard ground ball to left field. Colarullo would advance to second base on a ground out by Maddie Willingham. A single from Zola Braswell was followed by a walk by Maryellen Leach, loading the bases. A fake steal attempt allowed Colarullo to score home, Huskies up 1-0. Leach, New Hampton’s pitcher, struck out the side.
 
A couple of walks in the second inning allowed Tilton to score on a passed ball, all tied up 1-1.
 
New Hampton re-established the lead in the top of the third, stringing together a few singles from Willingham, Braswell, and Maddy Young, along with a walk from Leach. Willingham scored on a passed ball, Huskies up 3-1.
 
Both teams went scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Tilton hit two singles, one of which produced an RBI bringing the score within just one run.
 
Neither team scored in the sixth inning, and the Huskies left two runners on base at the top of the seventh. The Rams bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh when they strung together three singles and a double. This offense was enough to solidify a walk off win, securing the lead 5-3.
 
Maryellen Leach broke her personal record for strikeouts in a game with 16 on the day. The Huskies had hits from Maddy Young (2 singles), Courtney Colarullo (2 singles), Maddie Willingham (1 single, 1 double), and Zola Braswell (2 singles).
 
The Huskies will have a day off before having their last home game of the season when they welcome Proctor to campus on Wednesday.
