Maryellen Leach struck out 15 batters in Monday’s win against the Holderness Bulls.
Holderness was able to get on the board in the first inning before Leach struck out the side. The Huskies were stopped short of scoring despite a single from Savannah Norcross and ended the inning down 1-0.

Leach didn’t let a batter on base throughout the second inning, and the Huskies went on to get a few nice hits from Ellie Beaudet, Maddy Young, and Savannah Norcross, and took the lead 3-1.

Both teams went scoreless through the third inning, but New Hampton got back on base in the fourth rallying with two outs. Bailey Jenness was heads up running and took advantage of a drop 3rd strike, Norcross walked, and both Maddie Willingham and Courtney Colarullo hit singles. The Huskies grabbed two more runs before the Bulls closed down the inning, 5-1.

Leach threw to just three batters in the fifth inning only allowing 2 balls in 13 pitches, the rest being strikes or foul balls. Zola Braswell hit a triple and was replaced by pinch runner Allie Parmett, who scored on a drop 3rd strike during Maddie Crowley-Cahill’s at bat.

Both teams went scoreless through the sixth and seventh inning.

New Hampton had 8 hits in the 6-1 win with Colarullo going 2 for 4 at the plate and Norcross going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

The Huskies improve their record to 4-2 and will prepare to host KUA on Wednesday.
