Huskies fall to Phillips Exeter in first home game of the season

The Huskies fell to Phillips Exeter 12-5 despite out-hitting them on the day.
Exeter got on the board early, scoring two runs in the 1st inning after stringing a few singles together. New Hampton tied the game up 2-2 in the 2nd inning with a single from Maryellen Leach and a double from Zola Braswell.

The game started to get away from the Huskies when Exeter had the bases loaded in the 4th inning, ultimately scoring two additional runs with a single and a hit-by-pitch, making it 5-2. Braswell's aggressive baserunning after getting on base with a single added one on the board for New Hampton. 

Exeter celebrated a 2-run homer in the 5th inning, making the game 7-3. Exeter went on to have three hits in the final two innings of the game, increasing their run count to 12. The Huskies strung together 4 hits in the bottom of the 7th but was unable to keep the rally going, losing with a final score of 12-5.

Six different players contributed to the Huskies 9 hits: Savannah Norcross (2), Maryellen Leach (2), Zola Braswell (2), Maddy Young, Courtney Colarullo, and Bailey Jenness. Leach retired 9 batters in the first 5 innings before Maddie Willingham came in for the final 2 innings.

The Huskies will get back to work in preparation to host Kents Hill on Saturday.
