Leach strikes out 13 in season opener
New Hampton Varsity Softball travelled to Nobels and Greenough for their 2018 season opener.
The Huskies were blanked by the Bulldogs after scoring 2 runs in the first inning, resulting in a 7-2 loss.
Maryellen Leach was strong on the mound, retiring 13 of the Bulldogs batters. Nobles was able to capitalize with two home runs on the day, and strung together enough hits in between Husky errors to keep them on top.
Husky bats came alive in small bursts, with Zola Braswell and Ellie Beaudet each having two singles. MJ Peters and Leach also got on base with singles of their own. Brenna Crowder's critical eye allowed her to walk in 3 out of her 4 at bats.
The Huskies will return to the field on Wednesday as they look to face Phillips Exeter Academy in their first home game.
