Strong First Period Leads Huskies To Win Over St. Paul's

The New Hampton Huskies have four very tough games in the next seven days, which starts this afternoon, as they take on St. Paul’s School. The game started out fast for the Huskies, fifty seconds into the game, from an offensive zone face-off, Lukas Uhler was able to beat his centerman and pass the puck to Michael Kane all alone in front of the net. Kane made no mistake deflected Uhler’s pass by the St. Paul’s goaltender to put New Hampton in the lead. A minute and a half later, the Huskies dumped the puck into the corner left of the St. Paul’s goaltender. Joe Dunlap retrieved the puck, beat a St. Paul’s defender and slide a pass to a wide-open Lynden Breen, for a tap in goal. Up by two, New Hampton continued to put the pressure on St. Paul’s for the next five minutes, trying to add to their lead. Just past the eight-minute mark, the Huskies pressure and hard work paid off. While in the offensive zone, Michael Kane poked the puck to Lukas Uhler, Uhler walked out of the corner, came across the front of the net and stuffed the puck in the far side, adding to the Huskies lead. Seven minutes later, New Hampton increased their lead to four. Michael Ardagna made a breakout pass to Pat Roth, Roth made a great play, taking a big hit to chip the puck to Cory Morris. Morris skated the puck up the ice and then slide the puck over to Michael Kesselring, just inside the offensive zone blue line. Kesselring was in all alone and made a nice deke to his backhand, to score. Ten seconds later, the Huskies had a bit of a mental lapse and St. Paul’s was able to get on the scoreboard. The period ended with New Hampton still in full control, leading 4-1. The second period was not the Huskies best effort, they gave up two power play goals, letting St. Paul’s back in the game. Only up a goal, New Hampton needed a strong third period to come out with a win. Although, the Huskies did not dominate the third period, they did play solid defensive, not allowing St. Paul’s many offensive opportunities. Matt Sayles kicked away all seven shots faced in the third period, removing any hope of St. Paul’s completing the comeback. Overall, the strong start of New Hampton was enough to carry them to the victory. The Huskies will travel down to Winchendon, MA on Friday, looking to get revenge for a loss Winchendon School handed them, the second game of the season.
