New Hampton Shuts Out Vermont Academy

The New Hampton Huskies players battled hard academically through midterms this week and are now on the road to take on Vermont Academy this afternoon. Today’s game has important Lakes Region points on the line. Vermont Academy is currently second in Lakes Region, with an 5-1-1 record, New Hampton, 1-1-1, is looking to gain some valuable points. The game started out well for the Huskies, they controlled the play during the first period, out-shooting Vermont Academy,17-5. Despite, New Hampton dominating the shots on net, the game remained tied at zero after the first period of play. The second period started out similar to the first, with the Huskies in control of the play, but having a hard time finding the back of the net. About five minutes into the period, the offensive pressure of New Hampton lead to Vermont Academy taking a penalty. On the power play, Lynden Breen and Lukas Uhler set up Michael Kane in the slot. Kane ripped a shot past the Vermont Academy goaltender for the first goal of the game. The rest of the period saw New Hampton spend the majority of the time in Vermont Academy’s zone, creating quality offensive chances, but the Huskies were unable to add to their lead. Heading into the third period, only up a goal, New Hampton came out strong looking to score next goal. The Huskies second goal did not come quick or easy, however. It took over fifteen minutes of pressure from New Hampton, before they were able to score the back breaker. Bradley Shaw picked off a Vermont pass in the offensive zone and ripped a shot top corner to put the Huskies up by two. In the final minutes, New Hampton played solid defense to help Matt Sayles earn his second shutout victory of the season. The Huskies will be back on the road to take on another Lakes Region opponent, Brewster Academy, tomorrow afternoon.
