Huskies Rebound With Tie Against Brunswick

New Hampton received the help they needed from Rivers, who beat Nichols, leaving it in the Huskies hands to advance to the semi-finals. New Hampton will now need a win against Brunswick to earn the second seed in their division and advance to play host team, Belmont Hill, in the morning. The game against Brunswick did not start the way the Huskies hoped, Brunswick scored three minutes into the first period. The rest of the period was pretty evenly played, back and forth hockey, with both teams working hard to create chances, but neither team gave up much offensively. The first period ended with the New Hampton down a goal, but battling hard to try and even the game up. The second period started similar to the first, with Brunswick scoring an early goal to put the Huskies down by two. After Brunswick’s second goal, New Hampton did not get rattled and continued to stay with their game plan. Eight minutes into the period, the Huskies commitment to the game plan was rewarded when they drew a penalty to go on the power play. At the start of the power play, Lukas Uhler won the face-off to Lynden Breen. Breen gave Michael Kesselring a pass that he one-timed past the Brunswick goaltender, to bring New Hampton within one. The rest of the period was played at a high tempo with both teams creating lots of offensive chances, but neither was able to score that all important next goal before the end of the period. In the third periods the Huskies took control of the game and dominated possession of the puck. Finally, just over seven minutes into the third period, New Hampton’s hard work and tough play paid off. After a scramble in front of the Brunswick net, Michael Kane fired home a goal, after being set up by Lukas Uhler and Joe Dunlap. The rest of the period, saw the Huskies continue to put pressure on Brunswick, but they were unable to score the go-ahead goal. The game ended with both New Hampton and Brunswick tied at two. Matt Sayles played solid in net again, stopping 24 of the 26 shots that came his way. The tie however, did not allow the Huskies to advance to the semi-finals. New Hampton will look to finish the tournament off on a high note, when they take on another team from Buffalo, NY, St. Francis School, tomorrow afternoon in their last game of the tournament.
