Mistakes Cost New Hampton Against Nichols

New Hampton looked to build off a good effort yesterday against Rivers, as they take on a strong opponent in the form of Nichols School from Buffalo, NY this morning. The Huskies had another fast start to the game, which caused Nichols to take a penalty and give New Hampton a power play, five minutes into the game. On the power play, Cory Morris won an offensive faceoff back to James Hatzepetros who passed to Joe Dunlap just above the hash marks along the boards. Dunlap took one step towards the net and wired a shot top corner to give New Hampton the early lead. The Huskies lead did not last long though, a turnover at center ice lead to a breakaway goal for Nichols. Nichols scored two more before the end of the period, putting New Hampton down by two goals after the first period of play. In the second period, the Huskies dominated the play, out shooting Nichols 18-6, but Nichols held on to their two-goal lead, with each team managing only a goal. In the second period, New Hampton lone goal was scored by Bradley Shaw, on a rebound off of Michael Ardagna’s shot. Heading into the third period, despite being down 4-2, things still looked good for the Huskies, since they had been controlling the play for most of the game. However, an early goal by Nichols removed any hope of a New Hampton comeback. Nichols scored once more before the end of game and defeated the Huskies 6-2. New Hampton will have to regroup quickly and get ready for Brunswick this evening. The Huskies will need to beat Brunswick if they hope to have any chance of making the semi-finals tomorrow morning.
