New Hampton Finishes St. Paul's Tournament With a Victory

The New Hampton Huskies closed out the annual St. Paul’s tournament against St. Paul’s. The Huskies has to rebound from a loss earlier in the day. The team got off to a sluggish start. We traded buckets back and forth for most of the first half. Austin Caruso, Marcus Peterson and Adrian Juilland-Johnson had key buckets for the Huskies that found themselves down 1 at the half.

With the start of the second half, the three games in an 18-hour span looked to have stalled the Huskies. Shots weren’t falling and rotations on the defensive end were a step slow. TJ McMahon took a charge and grabbed a big offensive rebound that tilted the momentum in New Hamptons favor. St. Paul’s turned to a 1-3-1 Zone to get stops in the final 5 minutes. Austin Caruso and Guthrie Little hit big back-to-back 3’s that gave New Hampton the lead for good. Adrian Juilland-Johnson, Guthrie Little and Marcus Peterson hit clutch free throws at the end of the game that iced the game for New Hampton. The final score was 55-49. Marcus Peterson finished with 21 points and Adrian Juilland-Johnson chipped in 11 for the Huskies.

The Huskies finished the tournament 2-1 with the only loss being an overtime loss against Kent’s Hill. The team came together and started to jell during this two day stretch and looks for the same when they return from break. We wanted to give a huge shoutout to the parents and faculty members that were there to support us this weekend and wish everyone a Happy Holidays! New Hampton is off for the next 2 weeks, but is looking forward to their home opener against Kent’s Hill on January 5th.
