Huskies Outworked in Loss to Exeter

New Hampton traveled to play fifth ranked Exeter this afternoon. The Huskies started off the game well earning two power plays. On the power play, New Hampton seemed to stop working and were unable to manage anything offensively.  There was not much action from either team the rest of the period, until the Huskies drew a penalty with just over three minutes to go in the period. This time on the power play, New Hampton worked hard and Lukas Uhler and Thomas Albert made a nice passing play to set Michael Kane up for a tap in goal. The goal gave the Huskies the momentum, which carried over to the start of the second period. During the first five minutes of the second period, New Hampton dominated the play, earning their forth power play of the game. On the power play, the Huskies seemed to relax and Exeter took advantage with a shorthanded goal to even the game at one. Exeter took back the momentum with that shorthanded goal and started to put the pressure on New Hampton for the rest of the period. Thanks to the solid goaltending of Matt Sayles, the Huskies managed to escape the period only giving up one more goal. Down a goal heading into the third period, New Hampton was still in great position to win the game. An early penalty by the Huskies lead to Exeter taking a two-goal lead just over two minutes into the period. New Hampton were not going away that easy, five minutes after Exeter’s goal, Lukas Uhler scored to bring the Huskies back within one. In the next two minutes Exeter scored twice to ruin any hopes of a New Hampton comeback. Jake Dunlap added a goal for the Huskies and Exeter scored once more as well before the end of the game. New Hampton lost 6-3 in the hard-fought game. Matt Sayles played solid in net despite giving up six goals. New Hampton will head to Pingree on Friday to play in the Books-Pingree Tournament before going on vacation for the holidays.
