Stanstead Outplays New Hampton

Coming off a big victory last night, the Huskies look to stay on the winning path as they take on Stanstead College this afternoon. Stanstead will be no easy feat; the Huskies have had hard fought battles against them the past few years. New Hampton did not come ready to play, allowing Stanstead to capitalize early. Just over two minutes into the game, Stanstead scored to take the lead. After Stanstead’s goal, the Huskies proceed to take penalties and spent most of tthe period short-handed. New Hampton’s penalty kill was solid, helping the Huskies remain down only a goal after the first period of play. In the second period, the Huskies started off much better, working hard and taking the control of the pace of the game. Just under five minutes into the period, Michael Ardagna followed the play up the ice and crashed the net to score his first goal as a Husky and tie the game at one. Less than three minutes after Ardagna scored, Stanstead scored a power play goal to take back the lead. New Hampton continued to fight hard and five minutes later, Lukas Uhler was set up by Thomas Albert and Michael Kane to tie the game again. The rest of the period remained scoreless and both teams headed into the third period looking for the all-important go ahead goal. Five minutes into the period, it was Stanstead that took advantage of a New Hampton defensive zone mistake to take their third lead of the game. The Huskies were unable to score to even the score and Stanstead added an empty net goal to seal New Hampton’s fate. The final score was Stanstead 4 New Hampton 2. This afternoon was not the Huskies best effort, they will take tomorrow off and have two days of practice to prepare for Wednesday’s away game against Exeter, currently the fifth ranked team in all of Prep School Hockey.
