NHS vs. SPS
The Huskies would travel down 93 for a rival matchup against the St. Paul’s Pelicans in Concord. Every season, each game between these two teams would be extremely quick and full of back-and-forth action. MJ Peters ’19 would earn her second start in net for the Huskies.
The Pelicans would score first to give them an early lead but McKenzie Haberl ’19 would pick the puck off of a St. Paul’s stick and use her speed to earn a breakaway. She would beat the Pelican goalie and even the score at one a piece to end the period.
The Huskies would need to focus on better defensive-zone play and settle down a bit. St. Paul’s is a very fast and talented team that will undoubtedly capitalize on their opponents’ mistakes. The Huskies would take a number of penalties this period and have a few Power-Play opportunities. Although both teams had opportunities, the score would remain at one.
The Huskies would find themselves on the Power Play again as Haberl would chip the puck up to her center, Caelin Flaherty ’18, on her back-hand, would beat the St. Paul’s goalie over the shoulder to give the Huskies the go-ahead goal. With seven minutes left, the Huskies would find themselves in a 3 on 5 situation. After a St. Paul’s timeout, the Pelicans would crash the net, tying the game at two. It was clear that the Huskies would fight until the very end. With just over two minutes left, Anna Shelden ’20 would score the game-winning goal off of a shot from the corner with assists by Haberl and Michaud-Nolan ’19. Forty seconds later, Flaherty ’18 would use her speed to earn a breakaway, where she would beat the St. Paul’s goalie for her second goal of the game. To seal the victory, Haberl would capitalize on an empty net, giving the Huskies a 5-2 victory.
