Huskies Play Well But Struggle Offensively in Tie

In a battle of Lakes Region rivals, New Hampton took on the Rams of Tilton this afternoon. The game started with New Hampton taking control of the play early, playing physical hockey and creating lots of offensive chances. However, the Tilton goalie stood strong and put aside any shot that came his way. Ten minutes into the period, an offensive zone penalty put Tilton on the power play. Up and player, Tilton was able to score the first goal of the game to take the lead. The Huskies continued to work hard and were eventually rewarded with a power play of their own. On a two man advantage, Michael Kesselring and Thomas Albert set up Joe Dunlap, who evened the score at one for New Hampton. The scored remained tied for the rest of the period, but the Huskies having were definitely building momentum. New Hampton’s momentum from the first period spilled over to the second period, as they scored just over a minute into the period. Joe Dunlap deflected Zak Lanoue’s shot past the Tilton goaltender to put the Huskies in the lead. The rest of the period saw New Hampton dominate the play, but they were unable to add to their lead. The Huskies headed into the last eighteen minutes up a goal, looking to finish off strong. New Hampton continued to control the game to start the third period, but to score the all-important next goal seem to allude them. Ten minutes into the period, a miscommunication by the Huskies in their own zone lead to Tilton tying the game. The rest of the third period and overtime, New Hampton battled hard to win, but neither New Hampton or Tilton was able to score. The game ended with both teams tied at two. Matt Sayles played solid in net stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced. Although the Huskies deserved better, a tie is a step in the right direction, as New Hampton prepares to play a very tough Andover opponent on the night of Friday December 9th.
