Huskies Split On Day 2

In the first game of the day, the New Hampton Huskies took on a solid opponent in Seacoast Spartans this morning. The game started with the older Spartans team putting the pressure on the Huskies all over the ice. New Hampton was able to weather Seacoast’s storm for five minutes before they started to play better hockey and create chances of their own. After the first five minutes, the rest of the half was back and forth, with both New Hampton and Seacoast creating quality scoring chances, but both Andrew Engel and the Seacoast goalie stood strong in their nets. The second half was more of the same, each team controlling parts of the game, but neither team able to find the back of the net. With just over two minutes left in the game, Seacoast scored on a point shot, that Andrew Engel had no chance on due to a screen in front, to take a 1-0 lead. New Hampton battled hard to score the tying goal in the final minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Huskies suffered their first loss of the season, but will quickly have time to avenge their loss as they take on Victus Academy from Kitchener, Ontario at 5:00pm today.

In New Hampton's second game of the day, the Huskies took on Victus Academy this evening, looking to get back on the winning track. From the moment the puck dropped, one could tell Victus Academy was going to be no match for the Huskies. New Hampton was controlling every aspect of the game and pounding shots at the Victus goaltender. Despite dominating the play, New Hampton only managed to score two goals in the first half. Thomas Albert scored midway through the half, after being set up by Cory Morris and Lynden Breen on a nice counter attack. Then with less than thirty seconds remaining, Lynden Breen won a face-off back to Michael Kesselring, who fired a nice slap shot passed the Victus goaltender to put the Huskies up 2-0 heading into the intermission. In the second half, New Hampton offensive finally figured out the Victus goaltender and scored seven goals. Michael Kesselring scored another goal, James Hatzepetros scored his first two as a Husky, Steven Ardagna also scored his first goal as a Husky and the line of Lukas Uhler, Bradley Shaw and Joe Dunlap all scored as well to give New Hampton a 9-0 win. Matt Sayles turned away all the shots that he faced to earn a shutout and win. New Hampton finished second in their division and will face the third seed from the other Prep division tomorrow at 10:00am.
