First Period Explosion Sets Up Win

This afternoon, the New Hampton Men’s Ice Hockey Team face a team from the north. Bishops College, a NEPSAC affiliate member traveled down from Quebec, Canada to take on the Huskies. From moment, the puck dropped, one could tell the Huskies were ready to play. They came out flying in the first shift of the game, putting pressure all over Bishops College. Forty-five seconds in, the hard work of Lukas Uhler and Bradley Shaw set up Joe Dunlap all alone in front of the net. Dunlap pulled the puck to his back hand and beat the Bishops goaltender to start off the scoring again for the Huskies. Two minutes later, Lynden Breen scored off the nice passing play of Thomas Albert and Zak Lanoue. Thirty seconds later, New Hampton continued their offensive explosion, Bradley Shaw set up Joe Dunlap for his second of the period. A minute a half later, Bishops was able to get on the board when a wide shot took a couple weird bounces to find its way past Andrew Engel. The Huskies quickly answered twenty seconds later, Lukas Uhler corralled a rebound off of Adam Shuchart’s shot to extend New Hampton’s lead to 4-1. The Huskies continued to control the play and five minutes after Uhlers’ goal. Then, Thomas Albert scored his first as a Huskies. He was set up by Lynden Breen and James Hatzepetros. The last six minutes, things calmed down a bit and the play was more back and forth. The period ended with New Hampton up 5-1. The second period started off in a similar fashion to the first, Bradley Shaw scoring a minute thirty into the period off a nice pass from Thomas Albert. Things remained calm for the next eight minutes with neither team creating much. Then Bishops scored their second goal of the game off a New Hampton blocked shot to make the score 6-2. Lynden Breen scored his second of the game to put New Hampton up 7-2 with just over two minutes remaining in the period. The third period was pretty evenly played, back and forth hockey. Alex Grace scored a rebound goal off of a Steven Ardagna shot halfway through the period to give New Hampton the 8-2 win. Andrew Engel played solid in net stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced. The Huskies will now take a couple days off to enjoy the holidays before hosting the Northeast Hockey Showcase Tournament with Tilton School. New Hampton will faceoff Friday, November 24th at 8:00pm against Lakes Region rival Brewster Academy.
