Process and Preparation: New Hampton Women's Hockey Skates into National Prominence

As New Hampton School makes plans to open Jacobson Arena, a new state-of-the-art hockey facility, in just a few months, exciting announcements about two players (one current and one former) affirm the ongoing strength of the school's hockey program.
On October 5th, current New Hampton Senior Cayla Barnes was invited to train with the US Women's National Team, as part of an ongoing development process. She was one of three women invited to train with the team before they depart for the official Four Nations Cup games in Finland in November.

Captain and 2016 Directorate Award recipient of the US Women's Under-18 Select Team, Cayla will play with 18 members of the gold medal-winning 2015 U.S. Women's National Team, joining a talented group of 23 players, representing 12 different states. Cayla continues to flourish as a three-sport athlete, bright student and all-around dedicated community member at New Hampton. "I am thrilled by this opportunity to play with such talented women and continue to develop as an athlete. This is an incredible opportunity for me. I am also excited to have one more season with the Lady Huskies and be a part of the talented team that will play the first season in Jacobson Arena. New Hampton School, Coach Churchill and my teammates are such an important part of my career."

Jenny Currie '12 and graduate of University of Massachusetts, Boston was recently drafted in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CHWL) by the Boston Blades. Currie was a four-year player at New Hampton School and part of an era where the Women's Hockey Program established itself as a leader at the NEPSAC division 1 level. As part of the Beacons and UMass, Currie's hockey career was highlighted by a Second Team All-Conference selection as a senior, 27 goals and 13 assists in 81 games. Currie arrived at New Hampton in 2008 hoping to find balance between her academics and athletics, and a hocky program where her passion and talent on the ice would continue to grow. Currie, looking back on that decision and her time at New Hampton reflects, "I made a decision to attend private school and play at New Hampton where I knew I could be part of a talented cohesive team, coached by a dedicated coach and educator, and really pursue my dreams both on and off the ice. I really established myself as a player at New Hampton and am so thrilled to be where I am today."

New Hampton School is proud of these two female athletes and the way in which they represent the athleticism, character, and dedication we impress upon all of our student-athletes. News of their recent accolades arrives at a time when New Hampton is poised to stand out as one of the best high school hockey programs available to today's young players. Cayla and Jenny have set a high standard for the student-athletes that choose New Hampton allowing the whole team to raise the level of play and build off of one another's skill. This fall, New Hampton School will open the doors to a brand new, $8.5 million hockey arena, giving its student-athletes a competitive advantage that will only enhance the opportunities for our students to advance and play.
