The April Female Athlete of the Month is Maryellen Leach a member of the varsity softball team. In the month of April, Maryellen pitched a no hitter vs Proctor in a 3-0 win and has pitched 2 shutouts thus far with 15 strike out per game. Along with strong pitching, she has a .531 batting average and leads the team with 11 RBIs. Overall, she leads the team on the mound and at the plate. The team’s record would be very different if she wasn’t performing like this! Many umpires have asked the coaching staff “where is she going to college next year?” and she isn’t even a senior! Maryellen has also been an amazing captain during the craziness of the schedule. For her leadership and outstanding performances in April, Maryellen Leach was recognized by the New Hampton Athletic Department as the April Female Athlete of the Month.
The April Male Athlete of the Month is Matt Narewski a member of the Men’s Varsity Lacrosse team. Matt has over a 90% face off percentage which is incredible. He alone dictates the pace of the game and is the reason why the team is so successful. He is also a force to be reckoned with when he has the ball and has become an offensive threat. Every day, Matt practices hard and truly wants to take advantage of the day to get better. For his leadership and outstanding performances in April, Matt Narewski was recognized by the New Hampton Athletic Department as the April Male Athlete of the Month.
The December Female Athlete of the Month goes to Amelia Clairmont, a member of the Varsity Basketball Team. During the month, she averaged 16.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. Her stat line, although impressive, does not share her complete contribution to the team. In most games, Amelia is asked to guard the best scorers on the opposing team and has done a fantastic job stepping up to that challenge. In both games against Brewster and NMH, she held the opposing leading scorers to under 5 points when they were previously averaging 20 points per game. She has shown impressive play all over the court and helped lead her team to a great start to the season. Congratulations Amelia!
