Growing the Love of the Game

The New Hampton Field Hockey program is a team of dedicated and passionate athletes. Working with captains and coaches, the team works together to support the innate drive of the individual, while finding common ground on what it means to be successful. Each team is unique, but captains and coaches emphasize non-negotiables such as good sportsmanship, a strong work ethic, and unity. The New Hampton Field Hockey program finds strength in its encouragement of athletes that come from a variety of playing experiences, who find common ground in sharing their love of the game.

New Hampton is a member of the Lakes Region League and competes in Class C of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference. The team plays a competitive schedule in the fall that includes crossover games with Class A and B teams. The field hockey team is very fortunate to play on Kennedy Field, a field turf surface, giving our athletes a major advantage in skill development.

The program has prepared athletes for the next level, sending players to all divisions of the NCAA. Recent colleges and universities are listed below.

Bio
Entering her fifth year at New Hampton School, this will be Cate’s fourth season as the Head Coach of the Varsity Field Hockey program. In her time at New Hampton, the Huskies have made three NEPSAC tournament appearances. In the 2022 season, Coach MacKenzie and the Huskies earned the title of Lakes Region Champions and NEPSAC Finalists.

A graduate of St. Lawrence University, Cate received her BA in Government and Francophone Studies and was the captain of the St. Lawrence Field Hockey team. In her time at St. Lawrence, she was recognized in several athletic honorary societies, including the NFHCA Division III National Academic Team, Chi Alpha National College Athlete Honor Society, and Liberty League All-Academic Honors. A graduate of Millbrook School, Cate was a four-year varsity letter recipient and senior captain in Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, and Lacrosse.

At New Hampton School, Cate works in the Student Life Office as the Associate Director of Student Life. Additionally, she serves as the Junior Class Dean and an advisor. Cate lives on campus with her black lab Fraleigh and enjoys being outside. An avid runner, she recently completed her first marathon.

Bio
Before New Hampton School, Lindsey graduated from St. Lawrence University with a BS in Psychology. She was a four-year member of the field hockey team at St. Lawrence aside head coach Cate MacKenzie. After St. Lawrence, Lindsey spent two years at Cardigan Mountain School, teaching, coaching, being a dorm parent and advising before spending a year at a local public school, near New Hampton, as an autism specialist. A graduate of Holderness School, Lindsey was a three-sport athlete, where she spent four years on the varsity field hockey team, played ice hockey and lacrosse, and even spent a season on the competitive cycling team.
In addition to coaching field hockey at New Hampton School, Lindsey teaches Statistics and Psychology as part of the Mathematics and History departments respectively. She is the interim director of the International Student Program, a dorm parent in Rice house, the head coach of women’s jv hockey, and an advisor. In her free time, Lindsey loves to spend her time running, playing outdoors with her black lab, Obie, and visiting her family as much as possible.

Huskies Fall in OT
11/26/2023
The Huskies ended their season in one of their strongest showings of the season. Battling hard against KUA yet again, both teams left it out on the field. Forcing the play into OT, the Huskies had some strong runs but KUA forced a turnover and strong shot/rebound put them on top. The Huskies should be proud of their successes this season and strong showing in the Quarterfinals of the NEPSAC Tournament.

Tough Loss at Home

The Huskies headed into their last game of the season optimistic that they would come out on top against a formidable Lakes Region opponent, KUA. While the Huskies battled hard throughout the matchup, and play remained back and forth for the duration of the game, a few unlucky bounces caught them on their heels. Able to find the back of the cage twice, KUA bested the Huskies this evening. The Huskies will look forward to seeing where they may fall in next week's NEPSAC Tournament.

Recognizing the many contributions of their 5 seniors, the Huskies want to give a big shout out to Julia Loughlin, Catherine Gettens, Martina Pike, Elena Brandin, and Santi McCulloch for their leadership over the past few seasons - they will be greatly missed next year!

Huskies Play Hard at Dexter, End in a Draw

The Huskies travelled down to Dexter Southfield on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for what turned into an impressive match up between Dexter and New Hampton. While scoring took place early, with both teams recording goals in the first quarter, play continued back and forth for the duration of the game. Heading into their third OT scenario of the regular season, the Huskies were eager to put one away and come out with a victory on the day. However, Dexter's defense remained strong and while both teams hustled hard, neither could find the back of the net.

OT Win for the Huskies

In a hard fought contest against Holderness School on Wednesday afternoon, the Huskies came out on top. Though dominating the play for most of the game, the Huskies had a difficult time getting the ball past a solid Holderness defensive unit. Having an equally strong defensive game, the Huskies shut down Holderness advances as well and every single one of the Bulls' offensive penalty corner opportunities. Play continued from end to end as regular time came to a close and the Huskies and Bulls headed into OT.

With the play going back and forth for most of the game, the Huskies worked hard to shut down Holderness' quick self starts and rushes to goal. Although the Huskies found themselves on their heels at the half, they came together a put together a great 30 minutes of play to end the game ahead by two, solidifying the win.

The Huskies hit the road on Saturday for an away game in the heart of Boston, at Winsor School. Making great connections in the first quarter, Husky offense took every opportunity to rush up the field and get shots on goal. Their early efforts were rewarded and they were able to contain later offensive advances by Winsor and remain defensively strong in two man down scenarios. Buzzer sounded with a 2-1 score in the Huskies favor.
