Here on campus, we are busy following the legacy of New Hampton School Basketball, and cheering on all our alumni involved in March Madness. Many are players, some are coaches, and fellow alumni are out at the games cheering on their peers. This year, four alumni represented the school in the NCAA March Madness Tournament– with one continuing to the Final Four this weekend in Glendale, AZ! In addition, eight other Huskies have played in collegiate post-season tournaments.
Three former players entered the NCAA Tournament with their respective teams. Mike Leblanc '14 from Dover NH, and the Princeton Tigers were eliminated by Notre Dame in the first round of March Madness. Ed Cooley '89, Head Coach at Providence College, led his team into the tournament and was also eliminated in the first round. John Crosby '15 from Baltimore, MD reached the 32nd round with the Dayton Flyers before his team was eliminated.
This weekend, Dustin Triano '13 of British Colombia, Canada will represent the New Hampton Basketball program and the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Final Four against the University of South Carolina. It's always fun to see our alumni representing New Hampton out in the world – especially when we get to cheer for them with our friends on national TV! We plan to broadcast the March Madness games on campus this weekend for students to join in the fun. Go Huskies!
Additionally, the following recent graduates played in the National Invitational Tournament:
Tyler Lydon '15, Syracuse University
Tory Miller '14 & Josh Repine '14, University of Colorado
Aubrey Dawkins '14, University of Central Florida
Elijah Bryant '14, Brigham Young University
The Basketball legacy, and our network of alumni, also goes beyond athletes, to lifelong lovers of basketball who have found a niche as coaches. These three alumni, two of whom work together, coached their teams in the NIT:
Wes Miller '02, Head Coach, UNC Greensboro
Mike Roberts '00, Assistant Coach UNC Greensboro
Cuonzo Martin '91, Head Coach, University of California at Berkeley
Recent graduate, Jimbo Lull '16 and the University of San Francisco Dons also participated in the College Basketball Invitational.
