A reserved student who rarely puts himself in the spotlight, Chang Kyung “Scott” Kim ’13 is winding down his four years at New Hampton School — a long way from his hometown of Seoul, Korea. On Monday night on the McEvoy Theater stage, he showed that he would not dance slowly toward graduation in three weeks. Kim, along with four classmates, provided a wonderfully spirited and choreographed dance to the group Shinee's song Sherlock.
It was the culminating performance of NHS's annual International Night Celebration that included food, interactive cultural programs, music, and dance from New Hampton School's International Student population. Kim and his classmates worked tirelessly on their respective performances in the weeks leading up and it all paid off. The appreciative crowd of community members gave one raucous ovation after another.
Director of International Support Katerina Farr Williams was thrilled with the participation and the energy that students brought to the entire day and the amount of preparation that was undertaken in the kitchen and in the theater.
"Our international students put great thought and effort into the preparation of a program, which would allow them to share their traditional and modern culture with the greater NHS community,” said Farr Williams. “In preparation for the International Night, students rehearsed musical and dance performances, designed menu consisting of traditional dishes, and set up interactive programs highlighting respective history, geography, and cultural highlights.”
For their leadership, diligent work, and dedication to the International student community at New Hampton School, six international students have been recognized:
