Huskies Outplayed by Rams

The New Hampton Huskies only had to travel a couple exits down 93S to take on their rivals, the Tilton Rams this afternoon. New Hampton and Tilton already met once in preseason game, a game Tilton came away with a 1-0 win. The Huskies will be looking for revenge today as well as trying to earn the all-important Lakes Region points. Today, will be New Hampton’s first Lakes Region Regular Season game while Tilton already has two Lakes Region Regular Season wins. The game started out well for the Huskies, they were putting pressure on Tilton and created a couple early scoring chances. However, just over six minutes into the game, New Hampton took two penalties in four minutes. Tilton’s power play created some quality scoring chances and the Huskies lost all their momentum. Tilton controlled the rest of the period and scored with less than a minute remaining in the period to take a one goal lead. New Hampton was looking to get back into the game to start the second period. Their hard work caused Tilton to take a couple penalties early on, but the Huskies power play came up empty both times. After failing to score on the second power play, New Hampton lost the momentum once again. Tilton controlled the pace of play the rest of the period, adding a goal with two minutes to go in the period, taking a two goal lead after two periods of play. In the third period, Tilton scored five minutes into the period to bring their lead to three goals. New Hampton was working hard but they could not create any chances to get back into the game during the third period, being outshot, 13-3. Matt Sayles was the one bright spot for the Huskies, stopping 40 of the 43 shots he faced, keeping New Hampton in the game. The Huskies will look to learn from this game and come out with some desperation in their play as they travel down to Andover, MA on Friday, December 7th to take on Phillips Andover.
