Words and wisdom often resonate when there is shared understanding. So there is a good chance the class of 2014 will benefit in a few months from someone who has walked a similar path. New Hampton School is thrilled to welcome one of its own to the podium on May 23. Victoria Blodgett ’80 — a graduate of the School, a career educator, and a member of the Board of Trustees — will make the address at the School’s 193rd Commencement. Graduation exercises will begin at 1 pm.

"We are thrilled to have Victoria as our Commencement speaker," said Head of School Andrew Menke. "As a graduate of the school and a trustee who works in higher education, I believe she has the ability to provide context and wisdom for our graduates as they reflect on their years at NHS and embrace the next stage in their education."

Blodgett was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2009 and serves on the Executive Committee as the chair of the Governance Committee. A resident of New Haven, Connecticut, she is the Assistant Dean and Director of Graduate Career Services at Yale University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

"I am extremely honored to be asked to return to New Hampton and to be part of this momentous occasion," said Blodgett. "NHS is a special community to me, and Commencement is an experience shared by generations of the proud Husky Nation."

Before arriving at Yale, she spent 16 years working at Cornell University. Her positions included Director of the Big Red Barn Graduate and Professional Student Center and Assistant Director of Graduate Student Life. A Connecticut native who spent two years as a student at New Hampton, Blodgett received a Bachelor’s in American Studies (1985) and a Master’s in Education (1990) from Keene State College. She also had stints working at Keene State and in the New Hampshire Department of Education. An active volunteer, she worked to organize New Hampton School's “Forty Years of Women” Celebration in 2010 and received the Headmaster’s Service Award the same year. Victoria is also the chair of the 12-member board of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA.

Blodgett wrote a touching tribute to the late T. Holmes Moore ’38 in the Fall 2013 Hamptonia. (Click here to read the story)
