Lottery Pick: Vonleh '13 Selected No. 9 by Charlotte Hornets in NBA Draft

Noah Vonleh '13 filled the New Hampton School campus with a big smile, an incredible work ethic, and astounding basketball skills for two years. On Thursday night, the countless hours in Smith Gymnasium, two seasons in Husky Nation, a year at Indiana University, and lifetime of chasing an NBA dream paid off. Tthe Charlotte Hornets drafted the 6-foot-9, 247-pound Vonleh with the ninth pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Vonleh was picked by a team led by Michael Jordan, the team's chairman.

"It's a great feeling, being able to be picked by the greatest to play the game," Vonleh said to reporters after being picked at the draft, which was held in Brooklyn. "He obviously saw something in me. I guess I was the best available on the board and he saw something in me and they ended up choosing me. I'm very blessed and excited."

Vonleh, who hails from Haverhill, Massachusetts, enjoyed a successful two years at New Hampton School in the classroom and on the hardwood. He earned All New England honors as a senior and played in the McDonald's All-American Game. He played for New Hampton School graduate Pete Hutchins, the Huskies' seventh-year head coach.

"I am so pleased for Noah," said Hutchins, who graduated in 2001 from NHS and led the Huskies to this year's NEPSAC AAA championship game. "He took advantage of all the opportunities available in this environment and worked so hard every day to become a better player. The Hornets are lucky to have a player that will do everything to get better every day."
