New Hampton School is pleased to announce the introduction of a merit scholarship contest for local ninth grade day students entering the school in September.

Recently authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum, New Hampton School will award four $5,000 merit scholarships to qualified students who exhibit the qualities that would make them candidates to take IB classes or enroll in the school’s two-year, IB Diploma Program in their junior and senior years.

The International Baccalaureate is an internationally recognized curriculum that gives students college credit and is taught in 2,200 schools in 125 countries. The IB program seeks to develop internationally minded people, who recognizing their common humanity, help to create a more peaceful world.

“We’re trying to identify talented students that are globally minded and whose personal and academic traits are akin to that of the IB learner profile -- open-minded, principled, knowledgeable, balanced, and reflective,” says New Hampton School Director of Admission Suzanne Walker Buck. “There are so many talented and gifted students in the Lakes Region community and we want to bring their perspective and experiences to our diverse community.”

The $5,000 scholarships will be honored for each year of the student’s NHS experience, provided the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 or above and matriculates into IB courses.

Students must meet all admission criteria for acceptance to NHS to be eligible. In addition to filling out a contest registration form, students can either write an essay or submit a YouTube video as part of their application. For more information, visit www.newhampton.org/meritscholarship.

The scholarship does not preclude qualified families from receiving financial aid awards. For more information about the International Baccalaureate, visit www.ibo.org or www.newhampton.org/ib.
