NHS Dance is an exciting program that is continuously growing and changing. The program offers a wide range of disciplines at varying levels of ability. This includes the study of ballet, modern, jazz, and hip-hop. Whether you are a serious student looking to pursue dance in college, a recreational dancer, or looking to try something new, NHS Dance offers the right courses for you!
The dance program focuses on technique, art appreciation, choreography, performance, composition, and history. Proper body alignment is emphasized in all classes to promote injury prevention. The courses offered include Dance Training for Athletes; Arts Foundations; and Dance Technique levels I, II, and III. Students may also choose to take dance as a co-curricular activity.
NHS Dance offers formal performance opportunities, which include the Parents Weekend Performing Arts Showcase, the Annual Winter Dance Concert, the National Dance Week Celebration, and participation in Plymouth University’s Annual Dance Premier. Informal performances include school meeting presentations, as well as “Lane Loft,” which is a forum for all dance students to show work they have learned throughout the term. NHS students also have the opportunity to work with various guest artists who are nationally known masters of their craft.
