Athletes of the Month—November

The November Male Athlete of the Month is awarded to Auden Menke, the epitome of a dual-sport athlete coveted by the coaching staff. A college-bound lacrosse player and tri-captain, this athlete led the football team in receiving for the second time in three years, after missing last season with a knee injury. Amassing 19 catches for 571 yards and 11 touchdowns, he averaged an astounding 30.1 yards per reception on the season. These numbers are all the more impressive when you consider that the team did not throw the ball after the 1st quarter in three consecutive games this year. His best performances were saved for November contests. In the Powder Keg, he had 2 receptions for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the NEPSAC O’Keefe Bowl versus Hamden Hall, he hauled a career high 8 passes for 171 yards, finding the end zone three times in the process. Auden plays the game with high intensity. His versatility and willingness to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball was a huge factor in the team’s success. His on-the-field leadership and knowledge of schemes helped younger players assimilate to their roles as well

The November Female Athlete of the Month is awarded to varsity field hockey’s Maddie Nelson. As a freshman, her coaches gave her the mighty responsibility of last line of defense before the opposing team had a chance to challenge Madison Adler in the cage. Yet at right back, it was rare that players attacking down her side of the field even made it into the circle. With quick calculations and a perfectly timed stick, this defender managed to come up with the ball and make a precise pass to her teammates so consistently that she left the opposing team frustrated and her coaches and teammates shaking their heads in admiration. Maddie played a consistently important role for the Huskies all season and, truly a student of the game, improved tremendously as the season went on.
